Biol 1104 Principles of Biology (4)
Principles of Biology is a one semester survey course for majors and non-majors.
Life is studied at the sub-cellular, cellular, organism, and ecosystem
levels of organization. The course includes an introduction to the biology
of cells, the immune system, diseases, genetics, reproduction, the creation/evolution
debate, ecology, and classification. We will approach each topic through
current problems with attempts to seek solutions.
Biol 3233 Principles of Ecology (3)
Principles of Ecology is an introduction to the relationship[s] of organisms
with each other and with their environment. The course will include a study
of ecosystems, populations, and community structure. The interaction of
man with ecosystems will also be explored. Prerequisite: BIOL 1104 Principles
of Biology and BIOL 2334 Plant Biology, or permission of the instructor.
Biol 3821 Issues in Biology Seminar (2)
Issues in Biology is a special seminar course designed to deal with the
social and ethical problems encountered due to man's increasing knowledge
in the biological sciences. The seminar structure of the class provides
opportunity for students to research the literature, write a position paper
and defend the position in class. Each student is expected to deal with
ten different issues during the semester.
Phil 2463 General Ethics (3)
A survey of principal ethical theories and systems, with study of the practical
application of these principles to the moral and social problems of the
day.
